Fund Raising

Bradbourne Group Riding for the Disabled Association

Registered Charity No: 1122480

Bradbourne RDA is a charitable organisation that relies on donations and volunteers to run it. We really appreciate the fund-raising help we receive from local individuals, businesses and voluntary organisations. Money received goes towards the upkeep of horses and ponies, the purchase of equipment for riders and carriage drivers, special projects and insurance and veterinary fees.

Bradbourne RDA Supporters As a charitable Company Limited by Guarantee, we do not have members but instead we have supporters and we welcome supporters whether they be riders, helpers, parents, carers - or anyone who supports us in any capacity.  We do not ask for a subscription but would very much appreciate a donation of your choosing. The current “supporter’s year” runs from 1st April 2010 until 31st March 2011.

Anyone can become a supporter; please click here for a printer friendly Supporter Form. Supporters will receive a Bradbourne RDA badge and will be invited to supporter activities such as our annual meeting.

Fund Raising News:

Over recent months, we have been extremely lucky to have benefited from the generosity and hard work of many groups, including:

» Amhurst Chapter

» Kent Round Table Lodge

» Knole Chapter

» William Sennocke Lodge

» BHS North West Kent

» Kent Pony Club

» St. Luke’s Parish Church

» Vine Baptists Womens Guild

» South East Eventers League (click here for their website)

Enterprising Otford Guides donated money raised by delivering Christmas cards around the village.

We are also very grateful to the many individuals who have been extremely generous in their support.

Please remember that if you are considering making a personal donation and are a UK taxpayer, a Gift Aid declaration enables us to claim an additional £2.50 for every £10 you donate.  Click here for a printer friendly form. Thank you.

Bradbourne RDA's first-ever Charity Ball was held on Saturday 7th November. It was an outstanding success and raised in the region of £7,000 towards group funds. We are enormously grateful to everyone who worked so hard to provide such an enjoyable and successful evening. We are especially grateful to Sue Fewkes who masterminded the event. Click here for report and photos.

We are delighted to have been awarded a £500 grant from Kent County Council’s Kent Volunteers Small Grant Scheme. The scheme was set up to recognise and encourage volunteering in the county and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The grant will be used to support our volunteers and update our volunteer training and development program.

On 2nd July 2009, our chairman Peter Felgate was presented with a cheque for £300 by the Kent Police Property Fund. The fund is financed by the sale of unclaimed goods and we are very grateful to Kent Police and to the volunteer who found out about the fund and applied on our behalf.

Other recent good news on fund-raising includes:

» An employee at Sevenoaks District Council organised a Plant Sale and kindly donated the £380 proceeds to our group.

» The Isle of Sheppey Inner Wheel raised a fantastic £1,030 towards our funds.

» St. Michael's School in Otford, just outside Sevenoaks, undertook a 12-hour fancy-dress relay which raised a massive £6,300. The funds were shared between St. Michael’s School in Nepal, The Royal Marsden Hospital’s research into childhood cancers and Bradbourne RDA.

» Sainsbury's in Sevenoaks have made us their nominated charity for 2009/10 and will be undertaking a variety of fund raising projects on our behalf.

» On Thursday 18th June 2009, we were very pleased to welcome visitors from the Sennocke and St. Clement Danes lodges of the Freemasons. We were surprised and delighted when Peter Thorpe (seen on the right) of the St. Clement Danes lodge presented us with a cheque for £500. We intend to use this generous donation towards our ambitious project to re-build our crumbling clubhouse and are very grateful for the generous support the Freemasons have given us over a considerable period of time.

We are immensely grateful to all the above groups and individuals who have been so generous in their support of our group.

See our News page for a report of our incredibly successful Dog Fun Day which was held at Bradbourne on 14th June. Photos are available from www.animalimages.org.uk.

Pet portraits We are very grateful to animal artist Martyn White who has generously offered to donate a proportion of his fee to anyone who mentions Bradbourne RDA at the point of ordering a commission or purchasing a print from him.

Martyn specialises in creating original oil paintings from favourite pet photographs. He kindly painted the picture of Hannah on the left which featured on our 2008 Christmas card. Many more of his delightful paintings can be seen on his website: www.oilpaintingsbymartynwhite.co.uk.

The Kent branch of the British Motorcycle Federation have given us incredibly generous support for many years, including purchasing Polly and Dudley for us and making a substantial contribution towards the purchase of Finn (see Horses page).

The Sevenoaks Charity Darts League have been similarly supportive and their donations have enabled us to buy a range of equipment including, most recently, a new set of riding hats.

We are very grateful to Lord Kingsdown, The Hon J. D. Leigh-Pemberton and local farmers for generously permitting us to hold our major annual fund-raising event, the Milstead Sponsored Ride, on the beautiful Torry Hill estate each spring. We regret that there was no Milstead Ride in 2009 but hope very much to run the ride again in future years.

If you would like to make a donation, or have some fundraising ideas, or are part of a local fundraising group who would like to help, please get in touch via our Contact Us page.

Bradbourne RDA is registered with the government's Gift Aid scheme so we are able to reclaim, direct from the Inland Revenue, the basic-rate tax paid on donations and subscriptions by tax-paying supporters. This amounts to an extra 25p for every £1 donated - at absolutely no cost or inconvenience to the donor.

Higher-rate taxpayers will benefit personally by being able to re-claim the difference between the basic and higher-rate tax paid.

Bradbourne RDA is able to reclaim tax on all eligible donations made since 6th April 2000. So if you are a taxpayer and have made a donation or paid a subscription to Bradbourne RDA at any time since 6th April 2000 (or are likely to do so in the future) we would be very grateful if you could complete a Gift Aid declaration by clicking the link below, or the next time you visit Bradbourne. We will do all the rest. Thank you very much.

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding a Charity Golf Day at the prestigious Wildernesse Golf Club. This event, originally planned for Friday 23rd April 2010, has now been postponed until Friday 29th April 2011. More details will be available nearer the time.

Clubhouse Project Our current major project is to re-build our old clubhouse which has reached the end of its useful life. The cost  is expected to be in excess of £100,000 but fund raising is approaching the half way mark.

Plans for the new building have been drawn up (left) and the next step is to obtain planning consent. Watch this space . . .
