CARRIAGE DRIVING GROUP’S VISIT TO
ST. JOHN’S JERUSALEM
15th AUGUST 2010

On Sunday 16th August 2010, the Bradbourne RDA Driving Group spent a wonderful afternoon at St. John's Jerusalem at Sutton-at-Hone, near Dartford.
The National Trust property is famous for its 13th-century chapel which was once part of the former Commandery of the Knights Hospitallers of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, established on the site in 1199.

Its beautiful garden is moated by the River Darent and is famous for its herbaceous borders and magnificent trees, including a fine cedar of Lebanon (above left).

Ponies Jimmy (above left) and Billy (above right) enjoyed splashing through the cool water of the Darent as they toured the beautiful grounds.

At the end of the afternoon, the riders and helpers were kindly invited into St. John’s for a welcome cup of tea - and a chance to explore some of the artefacts related to the house’s fascinating history.
St John's provided a perfect setting for an unforgettable day and we are extremely grateful to everyone who made the outing possible, especially our hosts at St. John's Jerusalem.
